- The AL-1 was developed by the BUAER (Bureau of Naval Aviation) for heavy zone use after World War II, a flight jacket of the U.S. Navy. The outer material is made of cotton combed twill, which is dense and supple, and has excellent windproof and heat retention properties. The lining material is the same alpaca mohair wool pile found in the N-1, and the front has a double-layer fastening system with a zipper and buttons. Inner pockets on both sides, the left one with a zipper that can be accessed from the outside with the front zipper closed, and straps at the waist of the lining for a better fit. The slash pockets also have built-in ribs, an unusual detail that makes the AL-1 unique. There are two types of AL-1s: one with built-in ribs in the cuffs and the other with zipper cuffs, and this reproduction by "Buzz Rickson's" is the former ribbed model. It seems that the difference was not due to the age of the product, but due to the difference in contractors.

This jacket is a faithful reproduction of the vintage jacket based on the specs at that time, so please handle the parts with care. In particular, the zipper may be damaged if it is forcibly raised or lowered. When pulling up the zipper, be sure to pull up the metal part of the zipper slowly and carefully. Please do not pull the string forcibly.
