- The Oriental boom occurred in the United States in the 1950s. At that time, Japanese-patterned aloha shirts were displayed even in well-established luxury department stores such as Liberty House, attracting the interest of tourists. In Hawaii, the Oriental design movement was even more accelerated than in the mainland United States. This work depicts irises blooming in a marshland and dragonflies flying overhead with a delicate yet dynamic touch. It is a very unusual design that looks like a horizontal pattern.
