• Levi Strauss & Company was granted a patent 150 years ago, on May 20, 1873, for "a method of using metal rivets for reinforcing pockets in clothing. A year later, on August 25, 1874, Greenebaum Brothers, also in San Francisco, received a patent for reinforcing stress points with leather. Until the 1890s, when the rivet patent expired, Greenebaum Brothers pants were supplied as durable workwear throughout the West and Midwest as mining activity boomed. "WAREHOUSE" has reproduced their original 19th-century design, the "Leather Bound Overalls," by making light-ounce denim woven with 7x16-count yarn, commonly known as "two-by-one denim. The pants from the late 19th century, when jeans were still called overalls, have no belt loops and only suspender buttons. Each of the three pockets is reinforced with leather. Another feature of these pants is that they are sewn with all single seams. The deep rise, the waist to hips are loose, while the thighs are neat, and the straight silhouette toward the hems.
