"SS-563 USS TANG"

• This Type Deck A-2" with patches is reproduced by "Buzz Rickson's", based on vintage jackets. The USS Tang was the first diesel submarine built under the U.S. Navy's post-World War II submarine thrust enhancement program. With its modern appearance of a sophisticated hull and sail-shaped bridge, it became the basic type of submarine that followed. Launched in June 1951, she was assigned to the Pacific Fleet and operated with Pearl Harbor Base in Hawaii as her home port. At the time, it was customary for Pacific Fleet submarines to call at Yokosuka Air Base in Japan for replenishment and crew rest, and it was customary to order embroidered patches in the shape of the ship's emblem from embroidery stores around the base. The USS Tang's patch was also made in Yokosuka and was elaborately made using the excellent embroidery machine technology of the time. The ship's name "Tang" is the English name for the "Nizadai", a species of fish found in the West Indies.

This jacket is a faithful reproduction of the vintage jacket, so please handle the parts with care. In particular, the zipper may be damaged if it is forcibly raised or lowered. When pulling up the zipper, be sure to pull up the metal part of the zipper slowly and carefully. Please do not pull the leather string forcibly.
