- "Sun Surf" has reproduced this Aloha shirt based on the vintage. In the 1950s, the heyday of the Aloha shirts, the entry of brands not only from Hawaii but also from the U.S. mainland accelerated. Each brand put their efforts into new ideas, and many innovative designs were introduced. This shirt, which is highly regarded in the vintage Hawaiian shirt category, is a product of this era. The shirt is covered with lush banana trees. The hula girls dancing under the banana trees are placed at the hem of the shirt, forming a beautiful horizontal pattern. The original was created by Art Vogue of California, an apparel company founded in the late 1940s and based in San Francisco. The woven name label of one of the company's labels, ALOHA KANAKA (meaning "dear Hawaiians"), is used for this shirt. The textile design for this work was created by Wolfgang Wolf, a post-impressionist painter like Paul Gauguin. Born in the border region between France and Germany, he moved to Tahiti in 1934, where he created works on Polynesian themes. He later gained recognition for his artwork and worked based in California, where he became a well-known commercial designer in the late 1940s.
