  • WAREHOUSE 30th Anniversary Commemorative WWII Model Jeans. "Fabrics produced by the textile industry are as essential to victory in this war as guns and lead" — these words were said by a Rear Admiral of the U.S. Navy Quartermaster Corps during World War II. Under the War Production Board's directives, the military—then the world's largest buyer of textiles—forced nearly all civilian production facilities to switch entirely to wartime production. Factories were forced to switch production to military fabrics, such as herringbone and sanforized drill, and were compelled to make tremendous efforts to maintain supply, including considering the introduction of wider looms. Under these circumstances, clothing manufacturers faced material shortages and a wave of simplification, leading wartime denim to become uniquely rugged and utilitarian in design. It was an era where even surplus materials and remnants were repurposed for civilian goods, and even denim looms were forced to switch to use for military fabrics. This very background of the wartime model is reflected in a single pair that embodies the question: "How were World War II jeans different from before?" Unraveling this history, Warehouse commemorates its 30th anniversary by reproducing the WWII model for the modern era, using Kurabo-made fabric for the first time.
