Sierra Designs was founded in the United States in 1965 by two young men, George Marks and Bob Swanson. Their experience, free-thinking, and abundant creativity, not their careers or educational backgrounds, led to the completion of the original 60/40 mountain parka in 1968, a timeless standard that was highly acclaimed for its unprecedented comfort and performance. The comfortable, roomy design made it perfect for layering over suits, and its ease of coordination was recognized around town as the prototype for outer shell jackets, influencing many manufacturers. Even today, in the 21st century, the completed design and ease of use of these jackets do not feel old-fashioned. The somewhat low-tech atmosphere of the jacket is both fresh and appropriate for an eternal standard.
