- Sun Surf has reproduced this Aloha shirt, based on vintage shirts. This Aloha shirt with exceptionally rare design features a scarecrow watching over tall, mature rice stalks and a bird-scare device that makes noise to chase away birds. Among the countless vintage Aloha shirts, there is no other pattern that depicts a rural scene and a scarecrow on such a large scale; one can easily imagine Japanese immigrants in Hawaii wearing this shirt while thinking of their homeland. The original was produced by SURFRIDERS SPORTSWEAR, a long-established brand that had a store on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki and had been selling shirts since before the war.
