- This Type Tankers brown version is reproduced by "Buzz Rickson's" based on vintage jackets. The “Tankers,” a nickname for the Winter Combat Jacket, was developed and adopted as a winter combat uniform for tank crews. Designed for use inside the cramped tank interiors, it features a simple design with no epaulets. The standard military color “khaki” originally meant yellowish-brown and derived from the Hindi word for “soil.” Before World War I, uniforms were a pale color, but the U.S. Army, participating in WWI, changed the uniform color to olive for camouflage in Europe’s vegetated battlefields; this color later became known as khaki. While tankers typically wore khaki, this is a very rare brown version that actually existed at the time. Why it was brown remains unclear, but it is still considered a “soil color.”

This jacket is a faithful reproduction of the vintage jacket, and parts such as the zipper are revived based on the specifications at that time, so please handle the parts with care. In particular, the zipper may be damaged if it is forcibly raised or lowered. When pulling up the zipper, be sure to pull up the metal part of the zipper slowly and carefully.
