GOLD TIGER PATTERN JACKET

• This gold tiger striped pattern jacket is reproduced by "Buzz Rickson's", based on vintage jackets. In the 1960s, the U.S. Military Procurement Office in Japan chose to procure camouflage clothing in Japan. This was because of the combination of advanced printing technology, speedy production, and cost advantages. The pattern was left to the factories in Japan, so this is the reason why countless variations of the Tiger Stripe pattern were produced. Most of the early Tiger Stripes were made in Japan, but some were sewn by sending the fabric to Okinawa, and others were manufactured in Thailand and around Vietnam during the latter stages of the Vietnam War. In March 1965, the year the U.S. intervened in the Vietnam War, the war was also a battle against an invisible enemy hidden in the jungle. The Viet Cong (National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam) would approach noiselessly and repeatedly launch small-scale attacks, setting traps in jungles and rivers. The Tiger Stripe was developed for the purpose of assimilating soldiers into such Vietnamese jungles. Small pockets on the sleeves were used to hold cigarettes or small bottles of water purification tablets, essential for water collected in areas with poor water quality.
