"PAIR OF HERON"
- This Aloha shirt with the vintage label (HATA DRY GOODS STORE) is reproduced by "Sun Surf". This work features a dynamic depiction of a pair of herons spreading their wings while perched on a willow branch submerged in a lake. Among the Aloha shirts produced in Hawaii in the 1950s, it is very rare to have a large animal motif other than a Japanese pattern. In addition, the material used was cotton barkcloth, even though rayon was the mainstream material at that time, making it a collectible Aloha shirt.

S. Hata Shouten, led by Sadnosuke Hata, grew his business significantly by importing various goods from Japan and the mainland U.S. to support the lives of Japanese immigrants. From there, Yoichi Hata founded Y. Hata Company as an affiliate company and created the Hata Dry Goods Store that he himself owned in Hilo, Hawaii, and sold Aloha shirts. At the time, because S. Hata Shouten was the Hawaii distributor for Ichida (a major Japanese fabric trading company), the company handled many unusual fabrics, such as rayon slub, and the barkcloth used in this work was one of them. - Brand: HATA DRY GOODS STORE
