"ORIGINAL MATSON MENU DESIGN by EUGENE SAVAGE"

- 1936年にハーブ・ブライナーが立ち上げたカメハメハ・ガーメント社のブランド、カメハメハ。同社が手がけたこの「マトソンのメニュー柄」は非常にコレクタブルなアイテムで、ヴィンテージアロハシャツのコレクターであれば誰もが一度は手にしたい名作と言えよう。そして現在、その人気は衰えることなく、市場価値はさらに上がり続けている。20世紀初頭から1969年までの長きにわたり、サンフランシスコとハワイを繋ぐ航路であったマトソン・ライン。同社から依頼を受け、マトソン・ラインの船内レストランで使われていたメニューの表紙を描いたのがフランク・マッキントッシュとユージン・サベージという2人の画家であった。この作品は、サベージの描いたメニューの表紙が再構成され、見事にシャツへと落とし込まれている非常に完成度の高い一枚。テキスタイルデザインを手がけたのは「ジョン・マクミラン」とされるが、これは著名デザイナー「ジョン・メイグス」の別名で、当時の彼は二つの名前を使い分けていた。
