"SANKIN KOTAI"
- 色とりどりの糸を用いて豪華な模様を織り上げるブロケード生地で仕立てたジャケットや、日本でプリントされた和装の生地で仕立てた女性用のドレスなども得意としていた異色のブランド、ベティ・ヒギンス。戦後にオーダーメイドのドレス専門店としてスタートし、ピンクパレスと呼ばれて親しまれた歴史あるホテル「ロイヤルハワイアン」内にショップを構え、アメリカ本土にも多くの顧客を抱えていた。男性用のシャツの生産数が少なかったことから現存するヴィンテージに同ブランドの作品は多くないが、確認されているものは大半がオリエンタル・デザイン。この作品も、モチーフとなっているのは江戸幕府によって諸大名に義務付けられた制度である参勤交代の様子。江戸に向かうために隊列を組んで移動する大名行列が緻密に描かれた非常に珍しいデザイン。ハワイから始まり、アメリカ本土まで広まっていったオリエンタルブームの影響で、当時は古き良き日本を題材にしたデザインも数多く作られていた。
