- The M-43 jacket and trousers, designed for versatility across various environments, utilized a layering system (layering clothing) to address changing weather conditions and maintain soldier comfort and protection. This highly functional jacket, perfected through combat experience, later influenced civilian outerwear. Denim, a tough and stain-resistant fabric historically used in military and civilian workwear, began stiff and rugged but softened and developed a unique character through repeated wear and friction. This transformation and the resulting appearance are the denim's magical appeal.
