1930S WPA DOUBLE KNEE DENIM TROUSERS
- Within the WPA's large-scale programs, blue-collar workwear for laborers was manufactured. It was produced in sewing rooms called "SEWING ROOMS," and the garments carried tags reading "Made by W.P.A. SEWING ROOMS, NOT BE SOLD." These “WPA” garments are truly fascinating in both design and sewing specifications. The design base was military workwear, modified extensively, and the sewing specifications, as the name “SEWING ROOM” suggests, frequently used lockstitch instead of the chain stitching common in workwear at the time. They carry a sense of peaceful warmth until World War II brought military production to the factories. These 1930s WPA Double Knee Denim Trousers feature double-knee reinforcement, a three-dimensional hip construction, and belt loops utilizing the selvedge, faithfully reproducing the design of the 1930s.
