• Hinoya's completely exclusive model of "Sun Surf Special Edition" for the year 2023 is now in stock. "Kamehameha Garment Company" was founded in Honolulu in 1936 and later became the largest garment manufacturer in Hawaii. The company's brand, "KAMEHAMEHA", left behind numerous masterpieces in the field of aloha shirts. Among these, the "Gauguin Woodcut" is considered one of the most legendary works.
  Two versions of vintage aloha shirts with this pattern have been found, each with a different design of the main female motif. The shirt was designed by John Meigs, a famous textile designer at the time. Among his designs, in addition to this pattern, several patterns have been found with the same motif, but with detailed changes in composition. Many of these designs were changed over the years as they were continuously sold. Regarding even for this pattern, there are various theories, "Could it be a mistake to cut the position for the pattern when the fabric was cut?", or perhaps John Meigs produced another version with a different main motif?; however, there is no proof, and the whole thing remains a mystery. In the past, "SUN SURF" has reproduced the aloha shirt with a design featuring a woman in a crouched posture also, this time with the woman standing up.
  John Meigs was strongly influenced by Gauguin as a painter. What was his strong feeling for this pattern, which only he could understand, and what was the finished product that he envisioned by creating two different designs? It is no longer possible to hear the answer from Meigs himself, but Sun Surf believes that we will be able to know his thoughts only when the work is revived in its complete form and we put our sleeves on this shirt.
