Velveteen Souvenir Jacket
"WHITE TIGER X EAGLE"
- Tailor Toyo has faithfully reproduced this Sukajan (Souvenir Jacket) based on a mid-1950s Sukajan with a white tiger pattern drawn from an oblique upper angle, which is rare among tiger designs. While making full use of needle feet, the embroidery outlines are emphasized and expressed more three-dimensionally by showing the base color of the fabric in part of the striped pattern. The cursive word "JAPAN" embroidered is large, creating a powerful design. The reversible side features an eagle flying among cherry blossoms. The embroidery of the eagle and dragon on the chest is also delicately and precisely rendered, showing the attention to detail of the craftsmen of the time.
