"C-Pattern"
- The fabric for the "WAREHOUSE" flannel shirts is made using power looms, which remain only in a limited area in Japan. This is because power looms allow the fabric to be finished without losing the texture of uneven yarns. Same as denim, the yarns used to weave the fabric for vintage flannel shirts at the time were uneven yarns. When uneven yarn is woven under strong tension on modern innovative looms, it becomes a different fabric. The original properties of the yarn would be lost. By weaving on an old-style power loom, it is possible to weave fabric without losing the original unevenness of the yarn.
The power loom used to weave flannel shirts is the same twill loom used for denim. Because flannel shirts need to compose a pattern, this loom is designed to weave multi-colored yarns. The warp yarns move up and down complexly following the pattern, while the shuttle with weft yarns of different colors moves back and forth between the warp yarns one after another. Thus, the flannel fabric woven with the moderate tension typical of power looms becomes a fabric without losing the original unevenness of each yarn.
The flannel fabric is then brushed on the back of the fabric, following the production method of the time. Brushing the fabric gives the pattern a softer look. Also, the brushing makes the fabric fluffy and soft to the touch, which is unique to the power loom.
In this way, "WAREHOUSE" flannel fabric woven on power looms has a texture that can only be created by reproducing the yarn itself. The simplest way to identify this is by the presence of selvedges, and, like vintage flannel shirts up to around the 1960s, "WAREHOUSE" also uses selvedges in the gusset area. - One-washed
