It is based on the fishing vest of "Gateway," located in Kansas City, Missouri, a transportation hub in the Midwest, and handled sporting goods in general. The brand name is thought to be named after the largest "gateway" in the Midwest since Kansas City is located right across both Missouri and Kansas. This unique detail vest is thought to have been made in the early days of fishing vests, as the game pockets of the hunting vest and the pockets for holding rods and license cards coexist.
