USN N-3 JACKET
"JAPAN MAP HAND PAINT"

• "Buzz Rickson's" has reproduced the N-3 utility jacket adopted by the U.S. Navy in the early 1940s. The simple specification with one patch pocket on the chest and two patch pockets on the waist has almost the same appearance as the P-41 adopted by the U.S. Marine Corps during the same period. The buttons are black-painted donut-shaped tack buttons used in the World War II era and are engraved with laurel. The sleeves are tubular one-piece sleeves, adjustable with two tack buttons on the sleeve tips. With the outbreak of World War II and the increase in the number of soldiers, there was a rush to produce additional equipment, and a jacket like the N-3, which was simplified to the utmost, was extremely suitable for mass production. The back of the jacket features a hand-printed map pattern familiar to the Sukajan (Souvenir Jacket). A hawk spreading its wings majestically against the backdrop of Mt. Fuji. The 38th parallel as well as a Japan map are drawn on the back, suggesting that the original of this jacket was made during the Korean War.
