- This Aloha shirt from Sun Surf's special edition is reproduced based on vintage shirts. During World War II, the 100th Infantry Battalion was formed by Japanese Americans from Hawaii. Their remarkable advances on the Italian Front led the U.S. Army to form the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, incorporating second-generation Japanese American volunteers. Their achievements were extraordinary, and it is no exaggeration to say that the unit had a major impact on improving the status of Japanese Americans in the United States at that time.
The original of this shirt, designed by Jackson Morisawa, commemorates the 10th anniversary of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team’s formation. It proudly features scenes from the European theater, the “GO FOR BROKE” motto they championed, as well as the regiment and division insignia. Furthermore, the fabric has been reproduced from vintage originals, using a cotton poplin with a slight ribbed texture for the weft, offering a unique feel with a soft and crisp texture. The original was produced by POLYNESIAN SPORTSWEAR, a brand under Polynesian Casuals.
