"JAPANESE QUAINT DESIGN"
- This design features a pattern bordered by auspicious motifs — such as snow rings and fans—symbolizing hopes for a bountiful harvest derived from the melting snow—with oriental-inspired motifs —such as carp, horsemen, and cranes —scattered throughout the shirt. These designs, which had been used for kimonos and other garments long before the Aloha shirt was born, were also extremely popular in Hawaii during the 1950s. The original Aloha shirt was created by LIBERTY HOUSE, a long-established Hawaiian department store that adopted the era's trends in its product lineup, creating the fashion trends of the time.
