"AIR TRANSPORT COMMAND"
- This Type M-43 jacket with patches is reproduced by "Buzz Rickson's" based on vintage. The CBI Theater, established in December 1941, stands for China, Burma (now Myanmar), and India. The air route from India over the Himalayas to China, known as the "Hump Trip", involved navigating mountains exceeding 4,500 meters in elevation. The Air Transport Command was crucial in supplying units spread across this vast theater. The CBI patch customarily placed the theater insignia on the left sleeve and the AF patch on the right sleeve. The official Air Transport Command insignia featured a compass, but creatively inclined American soldiers often replaced it with a pin-up girl, showcasing the playful spirit that made such patch designs popular among the troops.
