WHITE PLAID BLOUSE
- Indigo plaid fabrics, which have already been around since the end of the 19th century, are mentioned as being made by the Amoskeag company in mail-order catalogs around the 1900s. Until then, fabrics had been sold by the cut at garment supply stores, so there were many plaid fabrics that were homemade, such as women's dresses, etc. In the 1880s, when Montgomery and Sears listed their clothing in their catalogs as “ready-to-wear” with a choice of sizes, it spread throughout the U.S., and many workers wore them. Photographs from the era show cowboys, railroad workers, food workers, and even Native Americans wearing them. This blouse, reproduced by WAREHOUSE, is still pastoral in its construction, and although the fabric lattice shows a straight line, it also has a front placket, cuffs, and waistband, and is designed to fit the body while being worn.
