- This "Brocade" souvenir jacket is a special edition commemorating Toyo Enterprises' 60th anniversary. Among countless vintage Sukajan, this item is exceptionally rare, featuring patterns expressed through weaving rather than embroidery. Depicted in gleaming silver thread on a black body are ancient Japanese motifs: bamboo, tigers, thunderclouds, and dragons. Around the early 1950s, brocade fabric woven in historic textile regions of Kanto—such as Kiryu in Gunma Prefecture and the Gunnai area of Fujiyoshida in Yamanashi Prefecture—was used as one variation for Sukajan. This is an ultra-rare collector's item, coveted even more than the super-rare skull patterns or hand-printed designs.
The reversible side features an eagle spreading its wings wide, a typical embroidery motif for Sukajan. The unique touch of the pine branches, the red lines emphasizing the eagle's eyes, and the dynamic curves expressing the beak, talons, and wing tips show the advanced skill and sense of the embroiderers of that era.
