• This special edition Sukajan(Souvenir Jacket) is associated with the snake, the Japanese zodiac sign for the year of the snake, 2025. Toyo Enterprise, founded in 1965, is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Taking the “Sukajan” as its subject, which can be said to be the company's roots, this work is not a reproduction of a vintage version, but an embroidered depiction of an original design.
  The main side features a black snake coiled menacingly against a background of Mt. Fuji with lightning. In vintage Sukajan, dragons are often depicted with thunderclouds. Since dragons and snakes have had a close relationship in Japan since ancient times, this work incorporates that composition to create a design with an appearance as if it were made in the 1950s. The motif is the "Yamakagashi(Tiger keelback)," which is said to have the strongest venom in Japan. Matching the yellow belly, the ribs and sleeve piping are also yellow, highlighting the power of the embroidery, which is based on black.
  In contrast to the slightly deformed pattern on the main side, the reversible side features a realistic depiction of a Yamakagashi coiled around a pine tree branch. This motif is based on an individual with red patches, the warning color of a poisonous snake. The faded pinkish-red and black checkered pattern of the spots is elaborately expressed using the three-dimensional effect of Yokoburi embroidery, and the garish embroidery stands out against the monotone body of the Sukajan.
