• In the 1960s, domestically produced denim did not exist in Japan, and jeans were made by importing fabric from the United States. Later, in 1973, the first domestically produced denim was completed. These jeans are made of a fabric that reproduces the denim of that time. First of all, for the yarn, Big John uses US cotton from Texas, based on data from the 1960s held by Big John and the selection of a cotton meister. A spinning machine made in 1953, commonly called "Ishikawa-dai," was selected to spin the yarn. Compared to ordinary spinning machines, the Ishikawadai spins yarns slowly at 1/3 the speed. Although the productivity is not as high, the stress on the cotton is less and the yarn has a hand-spun look. The finished yarn is dyed indigo by Showa Corporation, established in 1905 and the only company capable of rope-dyeing in Kojima, a denim production area. The fabric is then woven on a TOYODA GL-3 power loom, which is known as the "power loom of the past. Because the power loom was made more than half a century ago, it requires knowledge and experience on the part of the operator, and can only be handled by a limited number of craftsmen. The resulting denim has a vintage-like rough and uneven texture. The silhouette is a traditional straight fit. These jeans are the result of Big John's craftsmanship and passion for making things.
