- This Aloha shirt is reproduced by "Sun Surf" based on a vintage. Many Japanese immigrants were crossing the ocean to Hawaii and starting a new life there. At the same time, anthuriums were also arriving in Hawaii. The area of Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii, where many Japanese immigrants lived, had a climate very suitable for growing anthuriums, and since some of the immigrants had experience growing plants, they created many new varieties. Thus, the connection between Hawaiian plants and Japanese immigrants is deep, leading to their use as a motif on Aloha shirts.
