N-1 KHAKI DEMOTEX-ED
"GATOR NAVY"

• This Type N-1 with the patch and stencil is reproduced by "Buzz Rickson's" based on vintage jackets. The 1st Coastal Riverine Group was established in Saigon, South Vietnam, in 1966, during the Vietnam War. Its mission was to protect U.S. Navy port facilities in combat zones, primarily defending major naval ports in South Vietnam at the time. Once its personnel and equipment were in place, the unit became part of the amphibious warfare forces known as the “GATOR NAVY,” with its headquarters established at Long Beach, San Diego. “GATOR NAVY” is a nickname for amphibious forces composed primarily of U.S. Navy amphibious assault ships. These forces transport and deploy Marines from sea to shore and are capable of conducting amphibious operations, providing humanitarian assistance, and serving as rapid-response forces. Their ability to operate both at sea and on land inspired the nickname, likening them to alligators. The whimsical alligator patch sewn onto the jacket appears to have been custom-made at an embroidery shop when personnel visited Yokosuka, judging by the stitchwork of the lettering and overall style. The back features a stencil design reproduced to match the appearance of vintage garments, with “GATOR NAVY” appearing to have been stenciled first and the unit name added several years later.

This jacket is a faithful reproduction of the vintage jacket based on the specs at that time, so please handle the parts with care. In particular, the zipper may be damaged if it is forcibly raised or lowered. When pulling up the zipper, be sure to pull up the metal part of the zipper slowly and carefully. Please do not pull the string forcibly.
