HOPSACK RAYON OPEN SHIRT
"SHRUNKEN HEAD"
- In the 1950s, STAR OF HOLLYWOOD released highly artistic printed shirts to the world. While the brand boasts five globally acclaimed masterpieces, this Schrankenhead (dried head pattern) was also released by a brand called SIR GUY. Although the basic design is the same for both, the size and spacing of the motifs, the type of fabric, and the printing technique differ, with the STAR OF HOLLYWOOD version being the older, original one. When compared to the later SIR GUY version, the STAR OF HOLLYWOOD version features slightly smaller motifs and tighter spacing. The print is also a discharge print rather than an overprint. Vintage Shrunken Head shirts by STAR OF HOLLYWOOD are extremely rare, and since they have never been featured in books, they have been considered a “phantom” item even among collectors. However, this season, STAR OF HOLLYWOOD’s Shrunken Head, reproduced based on vintage originals, is finally being released to the world.
