• The AN-J-3A was developed for shared use by the Army Air Forces and the Navy. Although goatskin is the standard material for G-1-type jackets, some production runs in the G-1’s long history used horsehide, and the original of this model was manufactured by Willis & Geiger. Based on a vintage jacket, this AN-J-3A has been produced in black color by Buzz Rickson’s under the William Gibson label.

  The BLACK MA-1 was first produced by "BUZZ RICKSON’S" to commemorate the brand’s 10th anniversary. In the novel Pattern Recognition by internationally acclaimed novelist William Gibson, the words “Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1” appear in reference to the jacket worn by the protagonist. That fictional jacket eventually came to life as the actual Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1.
  The MA-1 was officially adopted by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s, with sage green as its standard color. While black MA-1s are now produced by various brands, black was never an original color found on vintage MA-1s. Also, no black MA-1 had been made using faithfully reproduced military-spec components and materials from the 1950s. For this reason, the BLACK MA-1 from "BUZZ RICKSON’S" was well received and became a topic of conversation among users seeking authentic specifications. Even when each material is specifically dyed black, the way the color takes varies depending on the material. When these different materials are assembled into a single jacket, subtle variations in color become apparent, clearly revealing just how many different materials go into the construction of a flight jacket.

This jacket is a faithful reproduction of the vintage jacket, so please handle the parts with care. In particular, the zipper may be damaged if it is forcibly raised or lowered. When pulling up the zipper, be sure to pull up the metal part of the zipper slowly and carefully. Please do not pull the leather string forcibly.
