"SOUTH PACIFIC SEA" by TROPICANA JOE
- "Tropicana Joe", whose trademark is a Panama hat, high-waisted pants, a tucked-in tropical shirt, and a pencil-thin mustache. Based in Texas, he is an artist who has led the music scene that has evolved from tiki culture around the world. He is widely recognized as the true ambassador of the exotica sound reminiscent of Africa and Latin America, and his contributions to shedding light on this niche genre are significant. He uses only 45rpm records from the 1950s to the early 1960s, covering not only exotica but also various other genres of music. He has served as a DJ at numerous festivals held in the US, Europe, and South America, and has released several tracks through the Chicago-based label "Wax Trax! Records." In 2024, he won the title of Best DJ at the Austin Music Awards.
In addition to his musical activities, he also works as a designer, conceptualizing and illustrating motifs for this project for "Keoni of Hawaii." These motifs were incorporated into a textile design with an all-over pattern by Sun Surf, culminating in the completion of this work.
