- Paintings and sculptures of dragons are often seen in temples throughout Asia, including Japan. Legend has it that in India, a country with deep ties to Buddhism, people worshipped a serpent that lived near water as a god, which eventually became a guardian deity called the dragon god. In Japanese temples, too, it is said that painting dragons on buildings protects them from fire. This aloha shirt depicts the dragon god with a comical touch. This work with a high degree of perfection expresses the dragon god flying freely in the sky, using colorful discharge printing techniques.
