- This special edition reproduces carefully selected Sukajan (Souvenir Jacket) from the Taylor Toyo collection with attention to detail and is finished to be comparable to vintage items. "The Year of the Dragon" Collection is a reproduction of the excellent dragon-patterned Sukajan associated with the dragon, the Japanese zodiac sign for 2024.
This Sukajan is a reproduction of a very rare “dragon pattern on both sides” vintage from the early 1950s, featuring gorgeous embroidery worthy of a special edition for "The Year of the Dragon". The main side features a blue body and gold sleeves, which remind us of the blue sky and the sun, and a white dragon dancing in the clear sky. Even the mane, beard, and scales are meticulously depicted using the handling of a needle for the embroidery. It features a dynamic composition of a dragon holding a treasured gem, clad in flames, and approaching, hiding its long body among the clouds.
In contrast, the reversible side is made of purple-gray acetate fabric, which is very rare even among vintage items. The color scheme of the body as well as the ribs, the direction of the dragon's face, and the composition of the undulating body, both sides are based on the white dragon motif, but the front and back sides are finished as a pair. The eagle on the chests has the same pattern on both sides, and this is because craftsmen of the time used the same “embroidery pattern” to produce it, so this Sukajan, following the vintage, uses different colored threads for embroidery to match the base color of each.
