石川台小寸編み天竺Tシャツ
- 『石川台』は、1953年に石川製作所株式会社が製造した日本製のリング精紡機です。製造元には記録が残っていないものの、現在も日本国内で稼働している精紡機の中では、最も古い機種の一つと考えられています。最新のリング精紡機と比べると、そのスピードは約1/3程度と非常にゆっくりで、生産性は決して高くありません。しかし、綿にかかる負荷が少ないため、綿本来の柔らかく優しい風合いを保つことができ、コンピューターでは再現できない、綿ならではの自然な表情とまるで手紡ぎのようなムラ感を生み出します。編みにおいては、和歌山に現存する旧式の小寸編み機を使用しています。この編み機もまた生産効率は高くありませんが、「ゆっくり・丁寧に・風合いよく」生地を作りたいというニーズに応える日本のモノづくり精神を象徴する希少な機械です。この編み機では、生地が筒状に上から下へと編まれるため、胴に縫い目（ハギ）のない、いわゆる丸胴に仕上がります。こうして作られた生地は、次世代のヴィンテージウェアとして、新たな命を吹き込まれていくことでしょう。
