"SADONOSUKE HATA", who founded 「S.HATA SHOTEN」 in HILO on the big island of Hawaii in 1896. This company imported various goods from Japan for Japanese people engaged in Sugar cane plantation. Initially, it was mainly general good and groceries, but they started handling KIMONO, silk fabric, and so on. "S.HATA SHOTEN" became a import agent of "Ichida", the major Japanese-style printing trading company which was exporting fabrics from Japan to Hawaii at that time.
This drawing is very unusual desgin based on the scene when Admiral Matthew Perry who visited Japan from the United States to negotiate a commercial treaty appeared in Uraga (eastern Yokosuka City) in 1853.
