- Government contract immigrants began in 1885. By 1894, many Japanese emigrated to Hawaii, and Japanese lucky charms were used as motifs for Hawaiian shirts. Goldfish is one of them, and it was regarded as a symbol of happiness and affluence, and was also popular in Hawaii.
- The oriental motif is usually overprinted on the kabe crepe fabric, but this work is a rare work, printing on the filament rayon with discharge printing.
