DECK A-2 "CIVILIAN MODEL" NAVY COLOR HC-3 "MERLINS"
- This jacket was used by the maintenance staff of the 3rd Helicopter Combat Support Squadron. The squadron, founded in September 1967, was tasked with airlifting supplies to the fleet using the CH-46 transport helicopter. The nickname of the unit comes from the migratory bird Marlin, which breeds in northern America. The patch of the 3rd Helicopter Combat Support Squadron on the right chest is designed to represent the mission of the Squadron, with wings carrying the Earth on a dark blue and white background representing day and night. A patch of the North Island Naval Air Squadron base, which is the squadron's home base, is attached to the left shoulder, and on the back is a memorial to the 104th Detachment of the squadron completing missions around Japan.
