The U.S. Army Air Corps was testing a variety of materials to solve the problems that summer flight jacket A-2 had (expensive, difficult to mass-produce, etc.).And then the nylon developed by DuPont in 1939. By adoption it, on May 21, 1945, the flight jacket for the light zone (temperature range 10℃ to 30℃), Type L-2, was completed. This new material and the design with the collar removed will be the basic model that will greatly change the flight jacket that follows. The type L-2 is equipped with a cable for fixing the in-flight communication system ICS and a leather box tab for fixing the hose of the emergency oxygen mask, and the lining is made of nylon with good sliding and wool with moderate heat retention. Heavy weave fabric was adopted.
