- Kakishibu (Persimmon tannin) dyeing is a traditional dye created from nature in Japan, with a history dating back over 900 years. This dyeing technique has been passed down as a traditional Japanese dyeing method for many years. Persimmon tannin is also used in herbal medicine and is said to have excellent antibacterial and deodorizing effects. In addition, persimmon tannin dyeing is also known as “sun-dyeing,” where the dye oxidizes when exposed to sunlight and air, causing the color to change over time. This natural color change cultivates a deep, unique hue. As you use it, you can enjoy the aging process and feel as though you are creating your own unique color.
The denim used in this jacket is made with sashiko stitching for the warp and persimmon tannin dyeing for the weft. The stitching on the warp shrinks and creates unevenness when washed, allowing you to enjoy its three-dimensional texture. "Persimmon Tannin Denim" was born from the fusion of craftsmanship and Japanese tradition.
