In the novel Pattern Recognition by internationally acclaimed novelist William Gibson, the words “Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1” appear in reference to the jacket worn by the protagonist. That fictional jacket eventually came to life as the actual Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1.\u003cbr\u003e\n        The MA-1 was officially adopted by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s, with sage green as its standard color. While black MA-1s are now produced by various brands, black was never an original color found on vintage MA-1s. Also, no black MA-1 had been made using faithfully reproduced military-spec components and materials from the 1950s. For this reason, the BLACK MA-1 from \"BUZZ RICKSON’S\" was well received and became a topic of conversation among users seeking authentic specifications. Even when each material is specifically dyed black, the way the color takes varies depending on the material.
